if it's an install, use expert mode by typing in the word "expert" at the first installation screen p - prnit your current parition table and make sure it looks right - check the reported cylinders, heads and sectors, are correct, if you don't know, go to the web site of the disk mfg. they will probably list it there by disk model # (Western Digital has excellent site) I had to change these x - enter expert menu c - enter correct cylinders h - enter correct heads s - enter correct sectors r - return to regular menu p - print table ( if you need to delete old partitions or mistakes d - delete, starting at highest number first, don't worry about messages n - add your new partition it will display first sector you can use, use it. enter last sector or +200M for size, the sector number is better. p - print table and make sure it looks ok t - set parition type, 83 for linux, 82 for linux swap l will list types w - this will write the table to disk, don't worry you can always quit without messing anything up, if you haven't entered the w. If this is a install, make your first linux partition under 800 MB and make your second parition a swap of 8 to 64 MB. After fdisk ends, you will see a screen with the disk listed, select edit instead of done, you will go into disk druid, and from there edit the first parition and enter a "/" for mount point. This should be all you need to do, During installation if you are asked to put lilo in MBR or first sector of the parition, answer first sector, and boot from a boot floppy. it will probably be safer. Good luck. -- Doyen & Sarah Klein doyen@mediaone.net
