Ernest,
The advice regarding fdisk has been right. But I want to suggest that
you consider this ... starting from "ground zero" it takes quite a while
for a person to become proficient with ANY operating system ... and that
includes MSFT products. Moving to a Unix is a move up and requires
somewhat different skills than using a "GUI - only" operating system. I
am assuming (from your email) that you have installed Linux as a
partition on a dual-boot machine.
I, too, am nowhere near being able to use Linux applications for all my
needs. In fact, I am still stumbling around learning vi and file
manipulation commands. But I know that, like when I first started up my
original XT many years ago and faced nasty old DOS, I am able to learn
to use this tool. Ultimately, I will know how to use Linux and, by
extension, be well along to using other Unices too. My understanding is
that knowing how to use Unix and being able to program in a couple of
languages is the key to a very nice paycheck.
Using Linux at home is the most likely way I will get ANY networking
experience and ANY Unix experience.
If you think Linux is so hard to learn, why not press CTRL+ALT+DELETE
on your Windows machine and try to determine why Win is running each of
those programs. The odds are that you only thought you had one or two
applications going. And what is that file called OSA supposed to do?
Once you overcome your present video card problems (is VGA all that bad
while you simply learn to use Linux?), I think you will find that your
machine is a lot faster than you thought. It won't be long and the idea
of simply turning the computer on to twiddle with it will become fun.
Well ... that's more than enough "preaching" for one day. Like I said
earlier, the fdisk advice you were given will work ... I would just like
you to sit back a bit and ask yourself if you really want to use it,
though.
