Sorry, no help...I'm new too Linux too and having a hell of a time figuring
out why my modem isn't working right.  I can't get my sound,  LAN, or COAS
to work right eithier.  I'm almost positive my modem isn't a winmodem.
Anyway, hope u have better luck.  Whats ur exact problem anyway with getting
online.  I might be able to help having tried so many different things.
