OK,
in RH5.2, and with the older isapnptools, my
motorola isa PnP modem
worked fine when I put it on io 0x3e8 irq 4. Since
these are default
resources for com3, I set /dev/modem to cua2 and the
rest fell into
place nicely.
Last night, my LSL Red Hat 6.0 came and like typical
newbie, I forgot to
save a backup copy of my old isapnp.conf file. I
did the install and
there is a lot to like. My problem is that now, it
seems io range
checking is enabled in isapnp. That's probably a
good thing except that
the kernel already found com3 (cua2) in the
motherboard and all its
resources are supposedly unavailble. Now, maybe I
should pick different
resources for the modem, but why should I have to?
Internal modems are
supposed to go on com3 or com4, right?, I have
absolutely nothing
plugged into com1 or com2 and I'd have to switch
jumpers or something to
make com3 and com4 into serial ports for external
access.
in a nutshell:
is it safe to remove 'CHECK' so that isapnp can
configure the modem?
OR
do I have to tell the kernel to _not_ set up com3 at
bootup.? Is the
2.2... kernel doing anything different with the com
ports or is it doing
the same thing as 2.0.3.....
