Linux clock

Does anyone know where I can get a simple date/time utility that polls the
hardware clock, as opposed to working through the OS?

I am trying to check out some supposed 'Y2K' test/fix programs, and I want
to eliminate errors introduced by the OS itself.

I was thinking that such a thing would be availble in Linux rather than
DOS/Win.

Any ideas?

Bill
