Help with PPP

Hi,
 I am having problems setting up my PPP dialup to my ISP. I just can't
seem to get it going. I am using TurboLinux 2.1 w/XWindows
(Afterstep). I setup the modem with there setup programs, and setup
the networking and dialup info with there setup programs, and when I
click on the modem icon (to connect) it turns green (connected) and
freezes. But it nevers actually uses the modem. I never hear it click.
Then after it freezes...it turns RED (disconnected) and doesn't work.
Can someone please help me out?
