Hello All, I am using hot-swap (ones that use the key to power-on/off the drive) removable drive trays for backing up data on our network. It uses IDE drives and it's on a PCI controller card. To swap drives, I just turn off the drive, place another drive in, then power it back on. This is reliable most of the time as long as the drive is not mounted when you swap. That brings me to the problem. I have a cron set up to mount and umount so that I can just swap drives and not worry about it. Umount is set a few hours after the backup completes just to make sure I have a large enough time window. The drive fails to umount every night. When I attempt to umount manually the next morning, I get the infamous "device is busy" error. Now, I make sure to CD to the root directory and it still fails. There are no external mount to the drive as well so I'm not sure what's causing this. The only "fix" I have is to restart the server. The server is running REDHAT 7.2 and SAMBA 2.2.3a. The backup uses the CP command (cron) and copies data from other servers via SMB mounts. I don't use SMBTAR because the tar files are too large and take much too long (over an hour, it's an old Pentium Pro) to restore data. Is it possible that the SMB mounts are causing this? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Hector
