You can't use LILO (the Linux Loader) to multi-boot your machine because LILO cannot write it's bootsector code to a FAT32 formatted partition. What you want to do is create a small partition of say 2 meg and format it using FAT-16 (DOS will do this for you.) You can create the partition using partition magic (much easier than fdisk) If lilo can't write it's code it won't exit the installer and you'll be in the situation you are in now. LILO when it installs will allow you to name the other FAT32 partition and include it in it's loader. This is where you want LILO to install. (I'm assuming that is what you meant by "getting past the password process" in the install?)
