Hello, I just read an article in the New York Times in which the name "Linux" was rhymed with the word "cynics". NO! NO! NO! How many of you are doing this? Linus Torvalds, the Finnish creator of Linux, pronounces "Linux" as "Lee-nucks". This is because it is based on his name, which he ostensibly pronounces as "Lee-nus". Linux is Linus + UNIX. Now, if you want to Americanize "Linux", you would base it on the American pronunciation of "Linus", which is "Ly-nus". Therefore, "Linux", in American English, would be pronounced "Ly-nucks" or "Ly-nicks". It is NOT "Linn-ucks", like the name Lynn or Linn. You don't pronounce the name "Linus" as "Linn-us", do you? Thank you, Jay Link InterLink BBS Posted to: ahn.tech.linux
