So I am new to shell programming and trying to write a script that will
change the directoy that I am in. I know that I have to export the results
becuase If I just put cd .. into the script it will take me there and then
bump me back when the script closes. What I cannot figure out is how do I do
that. I tried "export $shell" and I get a "/bin/sh (thats where my shell is
located) is not a valid shell variable." even though that is one of my shell
variables.
    any suggestions?
thanks
