The differance is in your preferance. I have tried both Red Hat and
Slackware (im currently using slackware now), and generally the biggest
differance is in the install. The Red Hat install is very simple while
the Slackware install is slightly harder, but its more efficient.
Additionally, Red Hat offers Technical Support, but Slackware does not.
However, with the amount of FAQ's and help that comes with both
distributions, there shouldnt be much of a need for the tech support.
Slackware is more of a "install and configure yourself" type of system
where Red Hat seems to have it all wrapped up in one. Slackware is also
more configurable IMHO than Red Hat, etc etc etc. There have been many
"distribution wars" about this, but it comes down to really just your
own preferance.
X Windows is something totally differant and they both come with X
Windows that you can easily configure. X Windows or better yet the
windows manager called fvwm95-2 looks amazingly like Windows 95 except
the desktop icons, and you have "vertual desktops" on your computer.
Even more, there are so many windows managers that I couldnt begin to
describe them all (AfterStep, Enlightenment, Fvwm, KDE, etc etc) and
they are all different. You can find more information about them at
http://www.xfree.org.
If you would like more information on what you can do with your
linux system, let me know and I will guide you through some stuff so
that you can see it. If youd like a copy of slackware, I would be more
than happy to place the cdrom on my ftp server for you or anyone else to
download. For more information about the differance between the
distributions, check out http://www.redhat.com and http://www.cdrom.com
for specifics, and http://www.linux.org for general information.

Good Luck
