Can't get my my mouse to work in RedHat 5.0

I installed linux without a problem , i can't get the mouse working though,
in X or anywhere, it picks it up in the mouse congfig allright but won't
function, it is a Microsoft serial mouse, i've tried all the other mosue
types aswell but none of them work, anyone know what i could do??
