I have run into a problem and was wondering if any of you have seen this before: gethostbyname() SEGV's when linked by the C++ linker. I saw this once before trying to use an X app remotely, but I worked around it. Apparently the function called vasprintf() jumps from 0x81234567 or something to 0xbeef or something, which is WAY out of shared library space... I tried sethostent(1) -- no luck. Anyone know enough about linker functioning to have a clue? Why only under g++? Apparently it's a gnu thing, works fine on Suns. I even reinstalled the new libraries. -David.
