Hey guys I am somewhat of a newbie to the linux world. I just recently
installed Linux Mandrake 8.1 on my computer and have been having many
dificulties with it. Here is the list of problems I am currently having:

1. I need to understand what is GNU exactly
2. Is the X Windows the same as the KDE and Gnome environments?
3. How can I configure my speedstream dsl modem or internet config within
linux so I can gain acess to the web?

I just recently bought two books on linux: Using Linux and Linux System
commands, however none of them seem to be helping me at all. The Mandrake
system is said to be 99.9 % compatible with Redhat so therefore a book for
Redhat should also work for Mandrake, however tha does no seem to be the
case. I searched tireselly on the net for any linux newbie sites that have
information a total newbie such as myself could comprehend, but so far I
haven't found any. Please email me at Guled82@hotmail.com if you can help me
in anyway.

Thank you for your help
