Darragh,
What it is telling you is that the partiton(s) that contain the programs,
scripts and data nedded to boot from are on a pratition that is lagrger
than 1024 cylinders. Or is located on a partition that is beyond the 1024th
cylinder on the drive.
The way I have done it is.
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 3 24066 e Win95 FAT16 (LBA)
/dev/hda2 6 2491 19968795 f Win95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda3 4 5 16065 83 Linux
/dev/hda5 6 68 506016 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 516 1027 4112608+ b Win95 FAT32
/dev/hda7 1028 1058 248976 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda8 69 515 3590496 83 Linux
/dev/hda9 1059 1504 3582463+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda10 1505 1566 497983+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda11 1567 1693 1020096 83 Linux
/dev/hda12 1694 1789 771088+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda13 1790 2491 5638783+ 83 Linux
Partition table entries are not in disk order
Command (m for help):
Device Mount Point Description
/dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c DOS Boot Disk
/dev/hda2 DOS Extended partition
/dev/hda3 /boot Linux Boot Disk (images and maps)#
/dev/hda5 / Linux Root#
/dev/hda6 /mnt/win_d DOS windows disk
/dev/hda7 Linux swap disk
/dev/hda8 /usr user programs scripts and data#
/dev/hda9 /usr/local Local programs scripts and data
/dev/hda10 /var Variable Data
/dev/hda11 /root Root account programs scripts and data
/dev/hda12 /mnt/iso I use this to hold data to burn on CD
/dev/hda13 /home Home accounts
# Any thing that is called during the boot process must reside below the
1024th. It makes no difference if it is on a primary or extended partition,
but it nust be below the 1024 cylinder boundry.
