Ok, well now that my last problem is somewhat squared away, I am having a
problem with the display in KDE. The biggest problem is my monitor but I
cannot afford to buy a new one. My monitor supports 16 colors, 256 colors,
24bit color, and 32bit color at resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, and
1024x768, the problem is it only supports a refresh rate of 60Hz. No matter
what I do KDE does not show up right. I have tried xf86config but that
doesn't work. I type setup and it fire up xfree86 and I use that, but itt
still doesn't work. I have tried every combination of monitor/color
depth/resolution and nothing seems to work. The best I have come up with is
when KDE fires up, instead of getting one nice screen on my monitor, I get 4
small ones that have some part of them cut off. They are almost complete
but not quite, and they are all shaky, especially the ones on the left hand
side. I find this very interesting, especially considering I have no
problems with win98se. My video card is a Trident 3DImage9850 4 meg AGP 1x.
The card is supported by KDE and it is in the list and that is what I ahve
selected. I can't even get KDE to work in the most basic of settings and
with complete generic stuff. It is at it's worse when set to standard VGA.
When set in standard VGA at 16 colors I get vertical lines that are red,
orange and yellow. I have no money to speak of at all. Otherwise I sure as
hell wouldn't be having these problems as I would have bought a new monitor.
I can't even afford a used monitor for 35 bucks. Now that yuou know this
can anyone help me out?
