Hi
I cannot connect to my ISP from my Linux box (Redhat 7.0). I can connect to
various individual modems, which is not connected to the ISP, but connecting
to our local ISP's is a new challenge.
From KDE's console I receive the following log message after authentication
and disconnected by the ISP:
"Jan 10 09:00:52 sano pppd[15131]: pppd 2.3.11 started by root, uid 0
Jan 10 09:00:52 sano pppd[15131]: Using interface ppp0
Jan 10 09:00:52 sano pppd[15131]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
Jan 10 09:01:06 sano pppd[15131]: Peer is not authorized to use remote
address 155.xxx.xxx.xxx
Jan 10 09:01:06 sano pppd[15131]: Connection terminated.
Jan 10 09:01:06 sano pppd[15131]: Connect time 0.3 minutes.
Jan 10 09:01:06 sano pppd[15131]: Sent 449 bytes, received 1571 bytes.
Jan 10 09:01:06 sano pppd[15131]: Exit."
My Internet access (Netscape) settings is exactly the same as the WinDOZE
box which I usually connect to our ISP.
Kppp is set to:
IP Setup: Dynamic IP Address
DNS Settings:
Domain Name: www.ISP.com
DNS IP: 19x.xxx.xxx.xxx
19x.xx.x.x
Gateway Setting: Default Gateway
IP Address 155.xx.xxx.xxx is unknown to me (I suspect that it could be the
dynamic IP address assigned to us by our ISP)
Could anyone indicate where did we went wrong. Please don't refer us to the
HOW TO's - we've tried.
Thanx
BG

I'm not sure if its going to help but I'll tell you what I did that fixed that
problem.
I'm running linux mandrake 7.1 and when I started using kppp I had to change
the speed that the data is being sent. start out with is set at the slowest
speed and if it conects bump the speed up to the next level. Keep doing it
untill it won't conect then drop down one setting. also make sure that your
modem dip switchs are set right. I have no idea what kind of modem your running
but I'm sure it has some type of code it is supose to go by on the bottem of
it, that is if its a externial modem. Also Make sure linux suports that modem.
Most people
go out and by linux thinking that all of their hardware is going to work only
to discover that it won't. In other words, Make sure its not a win modem.
I hope that helps you out.
