It is not possible to set your modem up for linux, the reason being is that it is a software modem designed for use with windows!!! In theory it is not a modem at all just a card with a connection to a phone line the software does the rest, these modems are usually called WINmodems. To allow linux to recognise a modem it must be either a Hardware modem (preferably ISA, as they are easier to set up) or an external. I know its a pain but the software modems are a cheap option and you will notice the improvement in performance as it isn't relying on the PC to do the work it's doing it itself. Hope this helps Good Luck Jonathan Archer Michael Brine <timeboy@bigpond.com> wrote in message news:2TpH5.4545$e5.11828@newsfeeds.bigpond.com... > the one thing that linux has flaw in is that it's not compatible > with enogth hardware. > So what if we alow linux to except windows drivers into its data base.this > way more people can use it without happening to resort to bye a comp that > will be compatible with linux > > oh that reminds i can't get on the net(well my modem is not set up properly) > my modem is a Conextant Softk56 v90 data fax voice internal modem. > if any of you's linux wizzes know how to allow linux to use this modem pls > tell me > >
