Can anyone help me to boot linux. I had partioned my 8GB HDrive and
allocated 2 GB for Linux OS and 6 GB to Win98 OS. It worked fine until I
had to reinstall win98. Now it automatically starts with Win98.

Thanks.

You need to reinstall the boot loader

Win98 overwrites the boot record when you install it. The boot record is
needed to start the computer. If you made a boot disk for Linux then you
can use it to boot your computer. If not, you will have to install
Linux again. Linux comes with a program called "lilo" (LInux LOader).
With lilo you can choose if you want Win98 or Linux.

What you might try is to install your Linux again without really
installing it... (confused?) If you are lucky, RH will
recognize your old installation and write it back into the boot
record...
Maybe there are two options for installing like "New installation"
and "update old installation" like with SuSE Linux. Try update in this
case. If this works, try "man lilo" for more information on lilo.

General rule: install window$ FIRST, THEN install Linux.

Master Boot Record when you re-install the damn thing.
Solution: Find your Linux boot floppy ( lets hope youve got one eh)....login to your root account
open a terminal and type /sbin/lilo
this will restore Lilo (linuxloader) for you.
The file that configures lilo is /etc/lilo.conf
I suggest tweaking this file to your satisfaction before you run /sbin/lilo
Now where will you find the various options that lilo.conf uses.............hmmm...let me see
ah yes...type man lilo.conf in a terminal
edit lilo.conf
you will then have to run /sbin/lilo ...... each time you edit lilo.conf in fact.
hope this helps....
e-mail me if you need more help

Thanks for the tips. Since I had the Linux Boot disk, I tried as per AK.
I get the boot# prompt but I am not able to login to the root account. Am I
missing any step ?

Also I thought of reinstalling Linux 6.2 back again but it shows only one
partition "hda1", though I should be having two.

Any help ?

Thanks.
