I've been looking for help for over two years to find out whether I can
configure an Adaptec AVA 1505 SCSI adaptor in Linux.

Red Hat wouldn't handle it, Caldera couldn't offer any sensible help and
I've finally changed to (much better and cheaper) Mandrake 7.0. It won't
recognize it, either.

I did get a suggestion that the aha 152x module would run it with added
parameters, but I couldn't get it to work, so I've had to keep a Win 95
partition purely for access to my Zip drive and scanner. What a waste of
resources and a kick in the face for Linux!

Hmm... Two years is too much time.
Well, you have to add support to kernel the aha152x part, as module or build
in, what you prefer.
Then you have to add to lilo statements the aha152x=0xYYY,irq where YYY=the
value of address of AVA1505 that system have to access him and irq the irq
you have setup.

If you don't use lilo but loadlin then add the same statements at the end of
the line of loadlin.
I have an AVA1505 for 3 years with Slackware 4.0 now and it works fine.

Sorry for my terribles english and greetings from sunny Greece.
