Hi all !

I can't start my linux server.
I added a new Dos partiton with an other partitioning program. after
rebooting I recieved a "kernel panic" messag. I also tried to boot with the
flopy I created when installing linux, but the same happend again.

The original state of the system was :
1 IDE HD -- 10GB
one Primery partition -- Linux native
one Extended partition --
part off this partition is logical drive with Linux
Swap partition
                  and
part off this partition is second logical drive with a
"new dos partition"

P.S: I tried to remove the "new dos partition" and boot in to the Linux ,
but it didn"t help !

Thank you in advance
Yigal

Sure it's logical!!!

WHY?
You can make 4 primary partitions

Linux

It seems to me very strange to make on the same primary partition even
splitted a linux and a dos logical partition because they use one
different and incompatible file system. I think you have to make two
primary partition, one for dos and another one for linux, try it!
Have you upgraded your
etc/fstab
etc/lilo.conf
you MUST do it!
If you haven't, lilo attemp to mount your kernel on eg: hda1 and your
kernel is now under eg hda2, it tries to find the kernel on hda1 and
it doesn't find it!!!
It's saying to itself "where is it??", I don't find it!!! panic!!!
then print to you "kernel panic"

I advice you I have made on my computer:
one dd:
linux:
hda1	/
hda2	/home
hda3	swap
dos:
hda4	/WIN95
and now if you want more partition, you can do logical partition.
I hope yon can fix your linux system.
