Hi,
does anyone know of a conversion utility that I can get to convert my
win 98 fat32 drive to fat so I can use system commander for an install of
Linux??? NOTE: I tryed an install already and it would not boot from lilo
on the floppy. The fat/system is a bit screwed some how 'cause Partition
Magic 4 is just giving me a "Table Error". The O/S's are working fine
so?????
I have win98 and win2000 but I want to install Linux so I can get used to a
posix system commands.

thanks,

Fred

Did you try using Scandisk to repair the partition table? After you can use
Partition Magic for the converting part. And install Linux...

I think that scandisk will not do the job.
From my experiance, Norton Disk Doctor does the trick. Afterwards, just
converting the patition is simple, using PQmagic (also, version 5 is much
much better).

Why using System Commander? Although it is a good program, it migh cause mbr
errors in various cases (did it to me), and causes partitions to "overlap".
My suggestion here is to use Lilo as the boot loader. You will find out
(after reading a bit Man Lilo and Man lilo.conf) that it can do all this,
and more, just a matter of simple configuration.

Good luck there :-)
Ez.

Well tell you what try adding another hard drive, small one maybe, I found
when i have two hard disks that i can install lilo to either one and it will
boot to linux. Just make shure you have a partition somewhere to install
linux to. Linux will read a fat32 so dont worry. find a cheap 100 meg hard
drive and install lilo to the MBR of it, use /boot and the mount point for
it, or even the swap file.
