Hi there,

I am a win98 user, recently I have been toying witht the idea of switching
over to linux.

What I'd like to know is, is it worth the changeover?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the answer here is quite complicated. It depends. It depends upon what
you're up to, and what are the demands from you system.
If you are a game guru, you will find out that there are games for Linux,
but less. Well, the good ones are working with Linux boxes also (Like Unreal
Tournament, Quake 3, Civilization 3), but most just do not, unless you try
wine, which is quite buggy, and most ikely won't work.

However, if your computer is set up to work, that is, typing spreadshits,
writing letters, connecting to the internet, etc. you might find that Linux
can do all this, and most likely, better and cheaper.

Mind you that moving to a new platform demands lots of reading, as Linux is
*not* m$ Windows, and configuring it for the few first times means lots of
reading and learning.

After all, it's up to you to decide, isn't it?

Ez.

Im useing Redhat linux 6.2 and win98 and win2000 on the same machine. Win
2000 doesnt support my usb devices and some of the equipment in my computer
but win98 does. Linux is great for about all the techie stuff, learning and
networking and such, but I cant play my favorite games on it. Total
annihilation for one. Internet is fine, chats are fine all in all Linux
rocks, but not for someone who is used to windows and has to re learn how to
really use a PC. Linux will force you to learn about I/O and sectors and
IRQ's and such.... Windows tries to spoil you and not let you handle it
much. It really all depends on what you want to do. I keep windows around
for games, NT for experience and Linux for sheer rebellion.:)
