Please help this Dos fool with Linux. I have installed redhat version 6.1 but I am struggleing to get the GUI to come up. My system keeps on booting into a command prompt. Information that I have found suggested I edit the /etc/inittab file. The lines to be changed are:- id:3:initdefault: to id:5:initdefault: I have managed with my limited knowledge of linux and unix to get into the file and to change the appropriate line but I have not been able to save the changes. Is this the only method of getting the GUI to come in or does anyone else have other suggestions. Also some instruction on how to save the edeted changes would be helpfull Thanks to all you help

I'm also using RH 6.1, there are utilities to set up almost everything, its just not easy to find out what does what try XF86Setup (NB case sensitive), if you get a bash command error then download the XF86Setup rpm. The other one that might help is xconfigure, which askes lots of nasty questions. pressing enter is best if you just don't know. also, what did you install? I just installed everything, then I just disabled all the setting I didn't need. so many setting, everywhere... g
