I can't for the life of me figure out how to get linux to see or
config my comm 4. Before i recompiled my kernal it was able to see it.
I've played with the serial script in /sbin/init.d but that hasnt
helped either. I know i have standard serial support in my kernal.
Please any help would be great. I'm using SuSE 6.3

Is there a device for it in /dev ? what do you get if you type
'setserial -a /dev/ttyS3' ?

Well i can tell linux it's there after i log in by giving it this
command. setserial /dev/ttyS3 uart 16450 port 0x2e8 ieq 3 spd_normal
Then i can use my modem, but i don't want to do that everytime i
reboot my machine. I checked the serial script in /sbin/init.d and it
has the same thing in there, but when i reboot linux only configs my
comm1 and 2.

you need to add the setserial line to your /rc.d/local or the /rc.d/serial in
the /etc/ directory
