Please post information about what's going wrong. For instance, does the Linux box not show up in Network Neighborhood, or does it show up but you can't access shares? Are you sure Samba is running (what do you get when you type "ps ax | grep mbd")? There are many possible causes of problems, and without more details, it's impossible to help. It's also impossible to give you a complete and accurate smb.conf file, as you requested, because we don't know critical information, such as what your Windows workgroup name is, what directories you want to share, etc. One common source of problems is an incorrect workgroup name specified in smb.conf. Be sure this is set correctly. Also, different versions of Win95 took different approaches to security. You may or may not need to set the "encrypt passwords = Yes" option in smb.conf and create an appropriate smbpasswd file. -- Rod Smith, rodsmith@rodsbooks.com http://www.rodsbooks.com Author of books on Linux networking & WordPerfect for Linux

The fact that you can ping the computers only means that the network
is running OK and has nothing to do with SAMBA.
You need to tell os what you want. Is it a domain controller? The
samba homepage has excellent documentation on how you set up things.
Try this link:
http://sunsite.auc.dk/samba/docs/ntdom_faq/samba_ntdom_faq.html
Note: Users are added with the following command (in case you use
encryption):
smbpasswd -a username
Enter the password twice as usual. Then you need to enable the SAMBA
user accounts:
smbpasswd -e username
The last part is often forgotten.
