Hi,

My name is Ian, and I live in the Island of Jersey, UK. I have no
programming experience, but understand the rudiments of networking. I have
explored html and developed http://www.interface-management.com website.

The interface-management.com domain uses a number of POP accounts held in a
server in Baltimore MD, USA. The DNS MX records point to this server, and
currently mail filtering is done there so that users in Jersey and
elsewhere can connect via the local ISP from their Win95 PC's and download
their mail via POP3.

I want to consolidate the network:

(1) A local machine with an internet Proxy server so that all PC's on the
network, which is Novell/Win95 Workgroup mixture can access the internet
using a single phone line where the dialup connection will be triggered on
demand.
(2) All the internet mail for the domain to be dumped into one maildrop in
Baltimore, collected using dialup PPP to the local ISP, on a timescheduled
basis, by the same machine that's running the Proxy, then filtered and held
in a number of local machine maildrops for collection via POP3 over the
LAN.
(3) All outgoing mail from the network to be held by the same local machine
and sent out via the local ISP's SMTP server when a connection occurrs.

I have evaluated the Electronic Frontier's (http://www.elecfron.com) groovy
little package for Win95 called Frontier Mail+ which allows mostly all of
the above except:
(1) Even if forwarding is set for an internal (i.e. LAN) e-mail address it
doesn't leave the network when mail is transferred out via dialup.
(2) Attachments don't always leave the LAN???
(3) It's a bit BUGGY
(4) They want about USD150 per user.

My Slackware CD's have arrived. I have installed a basic Linux OS on a
486SX25/8MB/170MB/Trident SVGA but need lots of questions answered, and any
help that might be forthcoming from you geniuses out there.

Howdy, I'm Gary from Texas USA. Still looking for a buddy? I've been
using Slackware Linux for a good while now, and I'd like someone to
throw ideas back and forth with. I got my CD used, it's version 1.2.1
:( My internet connection's only 14.4k so downloading a new system
would be out of the question, and i'm currently jobless.
As far as i can tell, 1.2.1 is far too outdated. Everytime i download
a new package to install something goes wrong (especially ELF binaries
-- no Netscape in Linux for me!).

I ran into all sorts of problems when I was using 1.2. Ended up upgrading
to 2.0.
