To recap, Linuxconf has been on it's way out for a long time, in 7.3 Redhat dropped it completely. The tool that you want to use is webmin, it's orders of manitude better then Linuxconf. Download it from http://www.webmin.com.

Well, I've looked at the webmin site and I can't see where it gives the functionality that linuxconf has to configure the system with different network settings, etc, for different sites. I use this all the time with my laptop. What is one advised to use for that? -- Mike Reid, M.Reid@phys.canterbury.ac.nz.pacific [Delete the ocean] Christchurch, New Zealand.

It's all there. Select Hardware/Network Configuration/Network Interfaces then select the interface you want to change. > I use this all the time with > my laptop. It will display the current settings (IP, Subnet mask, MTU etc). 2. Make the changes you want and save them. 3. Go back into the same page, and save the page as HTML from within your browser. (eg OfficeLAN.html) Repeat this for each unique setup you want so you end up with a series of pages. (eg office-lan.html, home.html, crosstown-office.html) Now when you want to change the settings to a particular preset, you just open the relevant page and select Save. The only gotcha is to make sure the pages link to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) if you are planning on changing your IP address for different locations (easy to do with a text editor). Kwyj.

All dogs think there pile of shit is the tops. No tool is perfect - ignore anyone who says that ANY app is perfect. It is never true. I use both webmin and linuxconf on my 7.3 box. Each of them has different strengths/weaknesses. If you want linuxconf, just go to the linuxconf download site http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/linuxconf/ and grab the freshest RPM for RH. Works like a charm.

The "home" of Webmin is <http://www.webmin.com/>. Some Linux distributions include RPMs or Debian packages; you might check <http://rpmfind.net/> to find if there are relevant RPMs. The Webmin home site may also have useful links. -- (concatenate 'string "cbbrowne" "@cbbrowne.com") http://www3.sympatico.ca/cbbrowne/linuxsysconfig.html I think it may be possible to simplify and condense the content of this thread somewhat: "GX is an ex-API. It is no longer supported" - The Rest of Us "No it isn't. It's just pining for the fjords!" - Lawson -- Michael Paquette

Maybe it is a piece of s... for you because it does not do exactly what you want, but the tool is very integrated with the system and allows you to set pretty much anything you normally need to set. I think it is great for laptops due to the different profiles you can save and switch to "before" any other process starts at boot time. Other profile switching utilities only allow you to do that "after" everything has been started and you are logged in What's the point of switching the network settings after it has already failed? I downloaded the latest RPMs from http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/linuxconf/ and it worked fine. I use the GNOME GUI which looks cool and simple. When not in graphical mode, then it uses the ncurses interface.
