Hi: I have a generic HSF modem and supposedly these modems can now be made to work under Linux. (Also Linux doesn't even notice the port at 02f8 and gives the UART unknown message - note: I have checked the plug and play option in the bios and that's not the problem). I've tried reading the "many" pages on these issues on the net but am left a bit unsure about what to do. Anybody out there who can give a helping hand. Much appreciated! I just had to do this to get my modem working on my box. If you have a pci modem, try this: Here goes: go to your terminal at /root and type lspci this will list your pci devices by name. Record the information for your modem. The numbers in the front are your clues for your next command. at root again type cat /proc/pci that will give you the specifics like the irq and stuff. Just use the information you wrote down from the first command to find the info you need after you type the second command. After that type setserial /dev/ttyS3(note--your ttyS# may be different) UART 16550A Port (your port) IRQ (irq) From what I understand, modems are to be configured with uart 16550A. To test, run kppp or wvdial and test it out. It should work. Just remember if you go to set up wvdial to associate /dev/modem with the port your modem is actually using. If this works for you, let me know and I'll help you configure it where you don't have to retype the setserial command every time you reboot. Good Luck!
