I'm still a bit green when it comes to Linux, but I'm trying to get IPTABLES going. I've been going through a pretty good book on the subject, but a lot of the rules and policies I've put in give errors. So I copied the exact script from the books web page, and it does the same thing! He's the page for reference. http://www.linux-firewall-tools.com/ftp/firewall/standalone.firewall.1 I'm running Redhat 7.2 with IPTABLES enabled and running (IPCHAINS is disabled). I get errors such as: : command not foundll iptables; Bad policy name and : command not foundll 'ptables v1.2.3: Invalid target name 'DROP and : command not foundll 'ptables v1.2.3: Invalid target name 'ACCEPT and 'ptables v1.2.3: Unknown arg '--flush I get a lot of the errors listed above. I also get errors on some of the kernel commands like # Enable TCP SYN Cookie Protection echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies it says the file is not found?....... Now, I'll give some info on what I did incase it has something to do with it. Because my test Linux box is in an odd spot in my room. I typed the script out in Notepad on my WinXP system, named the file rc.firewall, and saved it. Then I put it in the /etc/rc.d/ directory and did the following: chmod u=rwx /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall chown root.root /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall chmod u=rwx /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall and put the line sh /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall in the rc.local file. I don't know what the hell is going on. Does RH 7.2 use a different version of IPTABLES where these commands don't work? Did making the file in notepad funk it up? Any help on this would be great!
