i am have trouble getting my cdrom to mount and also floppy that are vfat. when i try to mount my cdrom i get the error "mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device" also when i try to mount a floppy with a vfat partition to put some modem drivers on i get an error to the effect of: fs vfat not recognized by kernel. i'm running redhat 6.1 also, just to see if it can be done. i have windoze on my slave drive, two partitions of it so i figure it would be hdb....anywho, is it possible for my to mount one of those partitions to transfer some files from hard drive to hard drive. i.e. picture files, mp3s, bookmarks and other shit. any info would be greatly appreciated --dk

make sure in /etc/fstab that where you are mounting the cdrom is correct. it may be mounted at /mnt/cdrom. try this #mount /mnt/cdrom then #cd /mnt/cdrom and see what happens. As far as the answer for moving files, no, when an OS is initialized, it can only see files that are in the file system recognized by the os. Unless you found a way to run two OS's at once. hope i helped -- Terry Inzauro Field Technician Axiom Integration, Inc. 2200 Abbot Dr. Carter Lake, IA 51510 (402)-(345)-(5500) mailto:tinzauro@axiomintegration.com I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.
