Not sure I buy that logic, but -- since Dole apparently cheated (perhaps
more than once) while still married to his first wife, then basically
ejected that wife and his now-adoring daughter from their home -- it looks
as if you're covered either way. ;-)

Also, to add to the answers given to another poster's earlier assertion
that the Electoral College hasn't elected a popular vote loser: in 1876,
Samuel Tilden defeated Rutherford B. Hayes in the popular vote but a
Republican-controlled commission voted 5 to 4 (5 Rep 4 Dem) to give him
all of the disputed EC votes from the South -- in return, Hayes pledged
faster military withdrawal from the defeated South -- and Hayes became
president. The closest we've come since then were two elections involving
Richard Nixon -- his narrow loss to Kennedy in 1960 and his narrow defeat
of Hubert Humphrey in 1968.

(The earlier posts re Jackson's EC loss in 1824 and Cleveland's in 1888
are also correct.)
