The following has worked for me in the past. I'm using slackware, but the
person who gave me this info was using redhat.

Adding Linux to the NT Boot Loader
1. Make sure you have a back-up of your existing system. At the very least an
emergency bood disk for any OS existing on your machine.
2. Note what files are in the BOOT.INI file. These are the files that the boot
loader is using to load the OS that you choose.
3. Begin a Linux session.
4. Setup your Linux so that it will do the following.

 Use LILO? = YES
Boot off of hard drive? = YES
 Make Linux default? = NO
Install Master Boot Record = NO

5. Mount the root drive of the DOS Partition. This may already be done, like in
the instilation that is on my machine there is a /dosc mounted at boot. You
might need a command like:

mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 dos/

6. Copy the DOS or WIN95 boot sector to a new file:

 dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dos/[filename] count=1

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU INCLUDE THE "COUNT=1" ARGUMENT. IF YOU DONT,
ITLL WRITE ALL OVER YOUR DISK TILL IT RUNS OUT OF DISK TO WRITE ON. THAT WOULD
BE A VERY BAD THING.

You will want to choose a file name that you can recognize as the one you need
for this, any extension will work. Like WIN95.BOT. This file is basically
needed for back-up. If you point the boot loader to this file you will create
a loop that keeps coming back to the selection menu. It is also a good idea to
avoid the .DOS extension.

7. Copy the Linux partion boot sector to a file on the DOS root drive.

 dd if=/dev/hda7 of=/dos/[filename] count=1
This command is expecting that your Linux root partition is the third
partition, if it isnt change the hda3 to the correct enumeration.
AGAIN, REMEMBER THE COUNT ARGUMENT!

8. End linux session and re-boot to get to DOS.
9. Make copy of BOOT.INI to BOOT.IN0
10. Edit the BOOT.INI

Add a line to point the Linux loader to its file. Something like
C:\LINUX.BOT

11. Re-boot your machine. IF you did everything rigth you will be buying
yourself a beer soon. J
12. Select Linux option from boot loader selection list.
13. If Linux starts, go and PARTY! If it didnt you still have some work ahead
of you.
14. Try all the other options of your boot loader program.
15. If none of them are successful, use the emergency boot disks.
16. Change BOOT.INI to something else and rename BOOT.IN0 to BOOT.INI.
17. Find out where you erred and fix it.
18. If you are still uncessful, Go and buy a beer so you will have something to
cry in. L
