I really need help troubleshooting this problem. I have tried configuring X
with no success.
I have installed Redhat 7.1 on a NEC Versa SX 266Mhz laptop with 4 GB HD,
128Mb RAM, 14.1 TFT XGA LCD Display, Trident 9388 2Mb video, Maestro
soundcard and TDK CyberExpress 5600 V90 modem and everythin is working great
except for X
Below is the original XF86Config file generated by Xconfigurator, I have
tried making all sorts of changes to it to get it working properly. X will
start but my display is not correct. I can see the gnome desktop and all the
icons are of the correct size but with no image on them, no text is legible
and the menu's are there and functional but they are all blank.
At the bottom is the log file.
Any help would be appreciated.

[snip] There are no problems at all with your X configuration, IMO. I suspect that your problem has something to do with fonts or language settings in general. Try to set your language to C (export LC_ALL=C) then run startx again. See what happens. Also, look at /etc/X11/fs/config what fonts are available, maybe restart your font server (/etc/init.d/xfs restart). Make sure you have the right font package installed for your language. Claudio
