Determining IP information for eth0 ... operation failed

I am running RedHat 7 and my networking has been working fine since I
installed it. I had ftp server, telnet, httpd, etc. running without a
problem. My ISP is rogers@home and they had been renewing my IP very
frequently, so I would have to run pump to get a new IP. The other day I
came to do some work on my system and I realized that I had no IP yet again.
I ran pump, but it failed. I rebooted my PC and I received this error
message "Determining IP information for eth0 ... operation failed" when the
eth0 interface is brought up. I re-compiled my kernel and added in support
for dhcp, but I still got the same message. I also checked /etc/resolv.conf
file and it looked correct (no "search localhost" line and dns servers are
listed). I am using a 3Com EtherLink III 3c509tp NIC. I am using kernel
module 3c509.

Any information anyone could give me to help would be greatly appreciated.

Hate to say it, but, did you reset the cable modem?
add
DHCP_HOSTNAME="CXXXXXX-X"  to   /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
CXXXXXX-X is your rogers node name.
change BOOTPROTO="dhcp"

/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart
tail /var/log/messages for error messages

Our dhcp server was out for 6 days, I switched mine to static until
the server started running.

The warranty and liability expired as you read this message.
If the above breaks your system, it's yours and you keep both pieces.
Practice safe computing. Backup the file before you change it.
Do a, man command_here or cat command_here, before using it.

Are you sure your @home DHCP server is working? I see that go down quite often
on mine.
