The Dragon

The Dragon

As I walk heavy footed through your hearts cruel desert
I am burned by the fires of your sun, lost and lonely
My blood and my tears freely flow, intermingle
Bringing life to the desert, bringing flowers at my feet
the blood red of poppies strewn like crumbs from the table
Yet I walk, blind, unseeing, pain has clouded my vision
But then your screams like a razor slice through my delusions
And at last, through my pain, I can see journeys ending
Your soul, still imprisoned in the coils of a dragon
I lift up my head, given strength to my purpose
Now resolved, hardened steellike, I draw forth my weapon
And we dance as we fight, ever changing, never stopping
But the shield of my love turns the flames of the dragon
And my strength, and my anger, are so strong, I am winning
With the dragon at my feet, still I strike with no pity
Til the dragon lies defeated with my sword at his chest
Then the dragon turns to me, liquid eyes pain reflecting
And it speaks, this once only, and it cries "be it ended"
But I gasp, drop my sword, bow my head and start weeping
For the dragon spoke with your voice....
