Re: Computerized testing
We are human factors doctoral students enrolled at Wichita
State University. We are developing the second version of a
computerized testing program for Introductory Psychology students.
The program is set up on a mainframe computer and accessed via
terminals located in staffed labs. In developing this new version,
we are interested in what features other psychology departments
would find useful, should they be interested in utilizing a
computerized testing program. Additionally, if your department
currently has a computerized testing program, what features do you
have or what features do you wish that you had?
Our survey is located at:
http://www.feist.com/~minnaert/halnews.html
If you have the time and capability to fill out this form for us the
information provided would help us greatly appreciated. If you
cannot access the web page, if you could answer the questions to the
questionnaire listed below the contents and features of our program.
If you would rather have an e-mail message with this information and
a copy of the questionnaire sent to you, please send an email to
minnaert@wichita.fn.net with the subject as "questionnaire" and we
will send one to you ASAP.
The content and features of our current program include the
following:
1. Twelve 10-point quizzes covering material from Psychology: An
Introduction (Eighth Edition), by Charles G. Morris.
2. A grading function that grades all quizzes automatically.
3. A quiz score function that allows students to review their quiz
scores and predict their final score.
4. An e-mail function that allows students to send and receive
e-mail to/from anyone with an e-mail account.
5. A remark function that allows students to comment on our
computerized testing system and a read remarks function that allows
comments entered by students to be read by professors and teaching
assistants.
6. A schedule function that allows students to check the schedule
for important dates and hours when they can take quizzes.
7. A feedback function that allows students to receive immediate
feedback on their quiz performance and specific information
regarding which questions they failed to answer correctly.
8. A tutorial program that allows students to practice taking
computer administer quizzes.
9. A student data editor function that allows professors/teaching
assistants to create, edit, sort, print, count, and search student
data.
10. The capability to set deadlines for when specific quizzes are to
be taken.
11. The capability to allow students to have any given number of
quiz attempts.
12. A monitoring function that allows terminal activity to be
supervised.
13. An analysis function that evaluates performance of individual
quiz items.
14. The ability to create files to allow e-mail to be sent to an
entire class.
We are soliciting your assistance in developing this program
so that it may be as well designed as possible. We welcome any
comments you may have regarding features or setup capabilities you
would like to see in a computerized testing program. Specifically,
what features/capabilities would you like to see added or deleted
to/from this program AND what setup capabilities would you find most
desirable? About features, would it be helpful to be able to
administer different types of quizzes, i.e., multiple choice,
fill-in-the-blank, short-answer, essay, etc. Considering setup
capabilities, would you like the program to be set up on a mainframe
(please specify what type); networked via IBM compatible PCs,
Macintosh, or Linux/UNIX systems (please specify operating system);
or set up on individual computers such as IBM compatible PCs,
Macintosh, or Linux/UNIX systems (please specify operating system)?
Any assistance you can provide regarding these issues will be
greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Kelly Spain
