First of all, this scam is still being attempted by snail mail. The
biggest deception in the claims (and there are several) is the simple
omission of the fact that there is a limited number of people stupid
enough to read the entire article. When that market is saturated, the
returns die altogether. For this reason, the US Postal Service gets
extremely annoyed at using this technique to rip people off, the
complaints based on deceptive promises of returns.

Second, if I was of a mind to rip people off with this, I would start my
own letter first. If I used this one, I would be an idiot to send my cash
to others. There is no enforcement of the rules on this aspect. So, who
is to say anyone will play this game by the rules?

Third, can you think of a better way to get other peoples' mailing
addresses AND userid's/email addresses in the same place?

Fourth, this letter requires that you post simultaneously to 200
newsgroups. That is a blatant violation of IRC rules which can get you
thrown off your ISP. I once got a warning letter from a posting to a mere
2 dozen. What do you think would happen to you if you were naive enough
to post to 200?

Finally, this proposal encourages people to engage in mass cross-posting
(posting to groups inappropriate for the posted material). There is a
growing trend in many newsgroups for the appropriate postings to be in the
minority, crowded out by blatant commercial postings totally inappropriate
for the group. There is a growing move among many people to fight this by
complaining to the ISPs of the posting parties. I recently did a mass
download of pictures from a group containing over 2000 articles. Over 80%
of the resultant pictures were commercials. This sort of thing is
destroying many groups, as people often don't have the patience (or the
money to pay for the online time) to sort thru this kind of crap.

Do you want to contribute to this pollution of usenet?

I don't.

I strongly encourage everyone who reads this to reply by email to the ISP
of the poster (hopefully it will be a genuine one) and demand that this
scum is eliminated from usenet for good!
