Organ donation is an important matter for every person to address. It is
something every person needs to consider. There are some religious groups
who would rather have their organs rot in the ground rather than go to save
the lives of several people but the major reason people don't made
arrangements for organ donation is apathy. Your heart, lungs, liver,
kidneys...even your eyes and skin...can go to save or improve the lives of
people after your own demise. It is extremely important for you to discuss
this matter with your family or next of kin, make sure that you say yes to
the donation section on your license and it is also very important to give
your details to an organ donor registry. Any doctor or health centre will
have details of how you can make arrangements with such an organization in
your country.

I am quite ashamed to say that Australia has one of the lowest rates of
organ donation in the world. All of the Australians seeing this message can
turn that around by doing something practical to improve the world and sign
up for organ donation. You can fill in a form for free at any Medicare
office or visit this website and make sure that even if you die, you will
help someone else live. Thank you for listening.

Organ donation is very important, yes. What's more important is that people
talk to their family members. In Victoria and in other (not all) states of
Australia, it's the family member's decisions which are important, and
nothing else. Filling out the Medicare form won't change a thing. I've
personally filled out at least three organ donation card forms and received
nothing back. I have, however, ticked the box on my driver's license. Not
that I've ever seen anyone check that driver's license mark before
considering organ harvestation.

I see people die all the time where their organs could be of use. I think
that doctors let an awful lot of organs go to waste. The primary problem is
that they don't feel comfortable talking about it to patients' relatives.
That's why patients on life support machines in intensive care units are the
primary source of organs - doctors have a chance to speak at an appropriate
time about organ donation.

So if you want to donate organs, talk to whomever will be contacted in the
event of your death.

Thanks for the reminder. My other 1/2 knows I want to be DNR, Organ Donated
and Cremated... just got to tell my parents - sure they'll enjoy that
conversation. Still I'd rather tell them than have them wonder in the event.

As you clearly know it is not relevant to aus.tv , no matter how important
organ donation is, I'm sure you could post to a more relevant newsgroup...
aus.general comes to mind here.
