   How to explain....

In the early solar system, you had a proto-Jupiter forming. Most of the
material was in a disk rotating about a central point. As the center increased
in it's gravitational attraction, it pulled in more material. But, at
a certain distance out from that center, the sidewise velocity of the materials
were sufficient to keep them from getting pulled inward. Within those materials
not pulled in, there were similar mass concentrations. These in turn formed
local concentrations that grew into moons. But, going further out, you get
to the point where the Sun exerts as much, or more, influence than does
Jupiter. Materials at that point are pulled out of the Jupiter region.

Some of Jupiter's moons are probably captured asteroids.

   Probably captured asteroids.

Same way as the moons of Jupiter.

There are a number of belts past Jupiter. The belt we know of as the
Asteroid belt is just one of a number of belts in the solar system.

I definately do not speak for HP | Then I set the test on fire
