We've had quite a number of the special little ones at the door. Hallowe'en 
is a wonderful time for opening the door to a pack of sixteen-year-old feral 
glue sniffers. It's twenty past ten and they're ringing the doorbell. We 
negotiate, they bearing acne and a hat in which to collect money, I an Ikea 
aluminium table leg. It's important to let them save face when they realise 
they're going away empty-handed, so a little banter about the likelihood of 
incest in their family and the unusual features of their girlfriends and 
mothers makes for a friendly atmosphere all round. Also a good idea to piss 
on your own doorstep during the afternoon, just so's they know whose 
territory they're on. It's the only language they understand.
