I apologize if you have already read this message. My problem is this: I used to have Nero 4.0.9.1 together with EZCD 4.02 deluxe and PacketCD 3. Everything was allright. My Nero came bundled with my RICOH MP 7080A (ATAPI). When I downloaded and upgraded to Nero 5.0.2.4 (Nero website says I am entitled to do so), my system hangs during first boot after installation. Crashing occurs with a blue screen (fatal exception OE at 0177:BFF83C17 etc., numerous similar messages), while putting icons on desktop and playing the starting sound. The problem happens during every next booting. Finally, system manages to get into Windows, but next time I get the same. I uninstall 5.0.2.4 and reinstall 4.0.9.1 and everything is fine. Some weeks later I try with Nero 5.0.3.1. Same problem. I have asked for help from Nero tech support, but until now no answer came back. I use WIN 98 on a Celeron 433 with 128 MB RAM, 10.2 GB HD from Quantum, Hitachi DVD 2500BX, ATI rage pro 8 MB, Creative Sound Blaster 16 Plug and Play. The motherboard is Gigabyte 6ZXC with Intel Chipset 440ZX. HitachiDVD is master and RICOH recorder is slave. Is there any idea about a solution? Why nothing happens with the older version of Nero while everything goes wrong with the new one? I already know about the problems between Nero and DirectCD- that's why I use PacketCD instead of DCD. I have also deleted SCSI1HLP.VXD one year ago. Thanks in advance. Kostas

Hi, I am the same person, but I think I found a solution, without using bootmenu. I re-installed Nero 5.0.3.1 over 4.0.9.1. After restarting, blue screens again. I entered safe mode and replaced Nero driver Nerocd95.vxd 4.0.0.8 from Windows\System\Iosubsys (the one from version 5.0.3.1) with the previous Nerocd95.vxd 4.0.0.6 (from version 4.0.9.1). The system started OK and, best of all, I used Nero to write an AudioCD (from mp3 files on my HD) with all the new features available! I don't know yet if I' missing some benefit over the previous version, but the main thing is that it works (so do PacketCD and EZCD). Thanks to everyone that tried to help. "Kostas Korobilis" <korobili@eled.auth.gr> news:8vhhea$oi7$1@orionl0.ccf.auth.gr... > I apologize if you have already read this message. > My problem is this: I used to have Nero 4.0.9.1 together with EZCD 4.02 > deluxe and PacketCD 3. Thank you very much. I did not know that this driver is not needed. But when I was using Nero 4 and the driver (4.0.0.6 ) was in my system, I had a limitation in compiling audio cds: no more than 3 .cda tracks at a time (problem known when you have Nero with EZCD, or Norton antivirus etc., altogether. It's mentioned in Nero Helptool). With Nero 5 and driver 4.0.0.8 (when it was possible to boot), this problem would not exist. So I suspect the driver is somehow important. Anyway, replacing as I mentioned, the new version with the old, I boot up fine, software works and the minor problem of selecting only 3 .cda at once is there, but one can't have them all! Thanks again.
