The figures for Clearnet are actually much lower than stated above for
this option. The actual cost should be:

Clearnet
$149 PCS Phone
$120 basic fee, 600 minutes included + free weekends + >>1900<< extra
minutes @ >>$0.15<< a minute + $4.50 monthly license fee = $289.50
(Clearnet's $120 package charges $0.15 for extra time, not $0.20)
$409.50 = $289.50 + $120 = total monthly fee with ClearNET

Hey 'tdma@nospam.hotmail.com', you might want to change your handset pricing
to reflect new market conditions.

Additionally, check the Yankee Group usage reports for average user spec's
(eg. time usage, peak/non peak, etc.., heavy/medium/low users), and their
comparison of all carriers in N.America.

Like I said before, if you can't stand to hear the dog bark, you're standing
to close.

In this particular case, you're better off if you use Fido's $20 / 100
minute service, so the amount becomes:

$20.00 basic fee 100 minutes included plus 50 extra minutes @
$0.20/minute =$10
$30.00 total monthly fee with Fido

Dear tdma,

I think giving examples of plans for potential customers is a really good
idea. You seem to follow this issue quite a bit. Why don't you make a web
page with tables to compare the different plans? We could all e-mail you
letting you know of new deals out there and this would become a constant
source of info for the latest deals in the Canadian cellular/PCS market.

Steve Punter's site http://www.arcx.com/sites/Chart.htm has lots on the
features, but not so much on price plans for different types of users.

Coming back to your comparisons, here's a little known feature of the
Fido/GSM/sim card: You can purchase many accounts from Fido and compound the
savings. If you are mostly in digital and 400 minutes is not enough: the
plan is scalable. You just get 2 or more sim cards. When you get up to your
400 minutes, just forward all calls to your new sim card, and pop it in.
Call forward is free (unlimited)

It's a little more work, but it might be worth it.

800 min: 80$
1200 min 120$
1600 min 160$
2000 min 200$
2400 min 240$
...

Also, the figures you mention are for the Nokia 6190, a truly fantastic
phone with a very good battery life. However, Fido just introduced the 5190,
which has a few less features but at 150$ including analog module, it's a
steal!

With this in mind, I'd like to go over the figures.

$198 Nokia 5190 75$, analog module 75$, licence 48$
$40 basic fee 400 min incl + (40$ x 5 = 2000min + 20$ for another 100 min)
$260 Total monthly fee with Fido

Here again, you're better of with 40$ + 40$ = 80$ for 800 minutes

Why not go with the 20$ 100 minute and ad 70 min x $0.20= 14$

Total: 34$/month

Here again, 2 x 40$ for 800 minutes would be better.

As you see, the scalability of GSM makes Fido a whole lot more competitive!!

There are also other considerations on Fido's side: second by second
billing, once the connection is established. Please see:

who actually uses 2500 minutes ?? I am curious. I don't even use a
minute a day... once we make contacts, i usually go to pay phone or
if I am at home, I use my residential phone line.

Probably someone all the time on the road and doing a lot of business on
the phone. Or someone who talked a lot with is girlfriend. :)

Who? real estate agents, people like that.

I myself use about 100 minutes in daytime each month, plus 5000 minutes of
weekends/evenings(free)

No I am not a salesperson.

Here's another funny plan
http://www.sasktelmobility.com/html/primetime.html

if you calculate it, it works out to approx. $150 a month for UNLIMITED
CELLULAR airtime anytime per month. Thats even better priced than the
Cantel/BCtel ultra-high user plans!

Unfortunately there are as many usage patterns as there are subscribers.
Although such a table would be useful for some, it couldn't possibly address
all the different combinations and permutations of usage. Most advice
concerning the price of packages usually comes down to a vague reference to
"it depends upon when you use your phone the most".

You don't have much of a life do you? That's 83 hours a month, or an AVERAGE
of 2.75 hours EACH AND EVERY DAY.
