I picked up one of these to use as a cheap spare phone, hopefully someone here can clarify what is going on with it. I've never owned an Ericsson phone before so I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong. I've put in my sim card in from my other phone, when I switch it on it says "ERICSSON" as normal I assume, but then it says "searching", then a phone symbol with a 1 next to it appears on the bottom of the screen, and then it says "no network". The sim card is a Virgin Mobile sim card, and I've had no problems in the past when putting it into other phones. I've also tried an Optus sim card, which also has had no problems in the past when inserted into other phones, but the same thing happens. Can someone tell me what might be wrong? I am guessing that perhaps the phone has a sim lock? Is there an easy way to get rid of it?

John, I would probably check the antenna and its connectors as it doesn't appear to be picking up a signal. The 1 symbol indicates the line in use (the Virgin SIM card supports this). If the phone was SIM locked you would get a message such as "invalid sim" rather than "no network". The GA628 is a 900Mhz phone but that's OK because OPTUS/Virgin is a 900MHz network with 1800Mhz only used for capacity relief in the larger cities. Frank

Could be a hardware problem - like very deaf front end or no antenna connection Doug "John Speranza" <jsperanz@SPAM-ME-NOTbigpond.net.au> wrote in message news:AqRY8.448317$o66.1213500@news-server.bigpond.net.au... > I picked up one of these to use as a cheap spare phone, hopefully someone > here can clarify what is going on with it.
