| It could be a number of things really. You might go into that system's
| BIOS and see if it has an IDE detection utility and see if the BIOS
| detects the drive as being there. You might have a place to specify
| the media type, I would set that to "auto".

I agree. And if that doesn't work, try manual settings. He didn't tell us
how old his other system is and if its set to LDD or what.

| I take it the drive's spinning up?
| Make sure it's master on the primary IDE port, and jumpered so.

Most common mistake after turning the pin one around on the ide cable
to pin 40.

| Try booting with a win98 boot disk and see if it will let you format
| the drive.
| You don't have a floppy disk in the floppy drive do you? If so, take
| it out unless it's a boot disk and you're actually using it.

I think the point is is that he doesn't want to lose the info on that drive.

I would then boot from the floopy, go into dos and try a scandisk C:
or just get a C: prompt.

No C: prompt and the problem is bios or hardware.

I'm betting it's something simple; I can't imagine that it's a FAT16 drive or an
NTFS drive, but then a boot copy of System Commander would find that out
or even run the FDISK option to find out what you got.

If you get a C: prompt, type in FDISK and see if it recognizes the drive and
then go
to number 4, partition info. Make sure the boot partition is active and that
it's FAT32
and that it's named, and there are no other partitions or if they are, they are

HTH

Lettuce know what happens, AFTER you do all the above advices.
