I am currently looking for work. after a job interview with a large retail
company they suggested that I do the mcse course as that is the first thing
they look for when recruiting. I had thought about it before but at that
stage I did not feel that it was appropriate that I did it. now I would like
to do the course but my problem is

- what exams should I do?
- where should I do them?(I'm in Melbourne Australia)
- any other short courses I should do(before or after)
- sugetions on a good set of mcse books

currently I have no formal qualifications

ideally id like to be working with business systems with some POS system
work(i.e. retail businesses). also business system design and implementation
or data connectivity for businesses(supplier or user)

also does anyone know of any courses for business systems(i.e. ingress or
sap)

thanks for your time and help

waldo,

I am doing a NTWS one and I find the preparation exam shit easy, but if the
company is gonna pay for them and the exams are easy and it gets ya nice
little certification saying ya can support such and such, why not?

Have a look at the FAQ for this group on http:\\mscefaq.htmlplanet.com and
at the microsoft site for MCSE certification at
http://www.microsoft.com/mcp/certstep/mcse.htm

You currently need to take 6 exams, 4 core + 2 electives. Most people start
with Windows NT Workstation as it is regarded as an easy exam.
Most recommended book is "Windows NT 4.0 MCSE Study Guide" by Alan R. Carter
IDG Books ISBN 0-7645-3087-9. This also covers Server and Server in the
Enterprise. The Exam Cram series of books from Coriolis are good for
pre-exam revision.

Check www.2Test.com for Sylvan Prometric or www.vue.com for testing centres
near you.

Mate, you have a long way to go, I would suggest two choices for a
start:

- Visit Microsoft MCP web site and decide what track is the best for you
- Take advice from a professional in an education centre who will help
you building your track.

For Melbourne, you have the choice between:
- EDUCOM
- COMTECH
- DRAKE
- GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE NETWORK

plus probably some others.

I personnaly work with EDUCOM mostly because they are next to my
office, and they're quite good. But I guess that others must be as good.

If you want to check the costs, visit EDUCOM at:

http://www.educom.com.au

Good luck in you quest.

Jean-Marc,
also in Melbourne

If you're in Melbourne go to COMTECH to do courses and exams - They are better
than most, if your company is paying then do them, but if you are paying, don't
waste your bloody time on this shitty worthless cert that will disappear from
under you on december 31 this year (unless you do the win2k track)
IT certification has turned into a money making only excercise and most certs
now have no credibility against people with REAL knowledge.

That's my 2c woorth ;-)

Tim Stevens MCSE, A+ :)
