SENT BY DARSHAN DILLON >> E-MAIL ADDRESS IS darsh@moldflow.com.au We are currently looking for a database which meets the following requirements (in order of importance) * Sold by a company with good support * Has an established user group * Royalty-free * Can be ported to most UNIX platforms & PC/WINDOWS 95, NT * Has been used to build applications with a GUI front-end on the platforms above * Can create database applications which run in single- or multi-user mode with minimal changes to application code. * Has been used to build database applications of a commercial, marketable quality * Has a reasonable development interface to keep down development and maintenance costs * Has been used with GUI builders to create database applications * Has been used with scripting languages like Tcl * Includes support for embedded SQL Even if the tool you have used only meets some of the requirements, it would still be of great interest to hear your experiances.

you could be talking about oracle here; but it requires a large hardware investment. you might want to look into focus, by ibi inc. it's an excellent product, and ibi sells lots of middleware for it also. i have used focus extensively on mvs, unix, pc; it also runs on cms, windows and god knows what else. (i'm looking for a linux version myself!!) native support for xbase, oracle, sybase, idms, adabas, teradata, comma-delim, sdf, and about 40 other file structures. code looks like: ****************** table file employee print name date empno salary on date subtotal run ****************** the only syntax change between platforms ic concerning os calls (i.e. dos del temp.fil unix rm temp.fil no i don't work for ibi - just a very satisfied customer!!
