howdy,
i am trying to compile a list of searchable databases and their subject
matter.
if you administer, maintain, or know of any database that can be accessed by
people (free or commercial) via the internet or dial-in connections, i would
appreciate some input.
ideally, i would like to have the following information for each database:
1. name of the database or organization administering the database
2. subject matter the database contains
3. search capabilities (by name, by company, by hair color, whatever)
4. connection types accepted (telnet, gopher, wais, modem dial-in, etc)
5. fees (if any)
6. access restrictions (if any)
7. specialized requirements (software, hardware, whatever)
no database too large or too small to be included. no subject too serious
or silly to be included.
mainly this list is for the organization i work for to become aware of the
databases that we can potentially access.
if i get a realistic response, and if interest is high enough, i'll post
the list in a month or so. if people send updates, i'll post updates too
(i think i just volunteered to be a list maintainer).
if you know of any list(s) similar in nature to this, please point me to
them.
feel free to distribute this invitation to anyone you think may have something
to contribute that wouldn't see it in this forum.
doug.

If you have a Corporate Librarian on the site, that would be your place to start. There are literally thousands of databases in existence--most of the best ones are "for pay". Find a librarian, start there and he/she will point you to the resources that list databases.
