Implementation dilemma

I administer a 3.12 LAN with one file server, fax server and communication
server. There are about 70 users. All applications and such run from the
server. We have recently developed a database program for our 250+ sites
across the country and will need to dial in to download /upload info. We
also have several small databases we use in-house for various info. Our
latest purchase is a database program for our resource development dept.
This program is extremely large. I know that I do not want the current
server to have the burden of handling all of these database programs.
Using a SQL server is not an option. I also need to segment the LAN.

I'm thinking I am faced with adding additional RAM, hard drives and a
second NIC card in the existing server or setup a second file server.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and ideas.
