I have gone to this site and found it very useful .. has links to all the
manufacturers and gives help to those having problems with their  56K and V.90
modems.

I am usually connecting at 31200 and true transfer speeds are in the 25500 to
28800 area.  I have connected as high at 46400.

You may want to try disconnecting any and all phones in your home.  Sometimes
one phone disconnected can make a difference.
